Applying for Slovak Citizenship by Descent in Slovakia
Submitting in Slovakia Can Save you Time!
Due to the high demand for Slovak citizenship by descent (CBD), submission appointments at Slovak consulates in the United States currently have significant wait times. Applicants may wait more than six months for an appointment in Washington, DC, and more than one year for an appointment in New York.
If you are flexible with travel, submitting your Slovak citizenship application in Slovakia may allow you to complete the submission process much sooner.
Please carefully review the information below to determine whether applying in Slovakia is the right option for you.
Important: Do Not Make Travel Arrangements Before Your Appointment Is Confirmed
Do not book flights, accommodations, or other travel arrangements to Slovakia solely for the purpose of attending your citizenship appointments until you have received confirmation that your appointments have been scheduled.
Appointment availability is unpredictable and is not published months in advance. Because appointments can become available at any time, applicants should be prepared to travel on short notice, as they may receive only a few days' notice before their appointment. The system often only provides us the next available date, rather than a calendar of availability.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that includes “cancel for any reason” coverage before traveling to Slovakia.
Two Appointments Are Required in Slovakia (outside of Bratislava)
Applicants submitting their citizenship application in Slovakia, outside of Bratislava, should expect to attend two separate appointments on different business days:
- Slovak residency application appointment
- Slovak citizenship by descent (CBD) application appointment
- The exact timing between these appointments depends on the district office where your applications are submitted. Some district offices require appointments for CBD applications, while others accept applications without a scheduled appointment. In some cases, you may be able to submit your residency application on one business day and your CBD application on the next. However, if the district office requires an appointment, your CBD appointment could be 3, 5, 7, or even 10 business days later. We will not know the timing until the first appointment has been secured.
- Applicants should be prepared for VERY short notice. Appointments are often offered with less than one week's notice, so you should be prepared to travel to Slovakia on short notice once your appointment becomes available. We cannot guarantee that you will receive several weeks' advance notice.
- Because the two applications cannot be completed on the same day, you should plan to be in Slovakia for a minimum of 3 days, including your arrival and departure days, and potentially 7–10 days or longer, depending entirely on the location and appointment requirements of the offices handling your applications.
- You should not make non-refundable travel arrangements until your appointment dates have been confirmed. Once we secure your first appointment, we will have a better understanding of the timeframe for your second appointment and can advise you accordingly.
- The important thing to remember: do not expect to complete the entire submission process in a single day. Plan your trip with flexibility, and be prepared to travel with very little advance notice.
Appointment Locations
Jamieson Consulting Firm s.r.o. currently coordinates appointments in:
- Košice
- Banská Bystrica
We service Bratislava only in a limited capacity.
Travel to one of these locations is required for your appointments.
Appointment Request Requirements
When completing the appointment request form, you must provide specific date ranges when you are available to travel.
This allows us to monitor your availability and coordinate appointments within your preferred timeframe.
Examples:
- “The week of August 25th”
- “The entire month of October”
- “Anytime in March or April”
If multiple family members are applying, please include the following information for each applicant in the section asking, “Do you have any questions at this time?”
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Only one applicant per appointment
Document Requirements
You will need:
- Two unofficial copies of all documents for every applicant
- Two official and apostilled National Background Checks
- If you will submit in Bratislava, you only need one set of unofficial copies and one National Background Check.
Once your appointment deposit has been received, you will receive access to your client portal or Google Folder where you can:
- Upload your documents for review
- Access required applications and forms along with their instructions
- Complete necessary paperwork
- Receive final document review before submission
Fees and Payment Terms
Appointment Scheduling, Coordination & Document Review:
400€ per applicant, age 14+
This service includes:
- Scheduling and coordinating your Slovakia appointments
- Administrative tasks related to the submission process
- Assistance completing required applications and forms
- Final document review before submission
If you are not a full-service consulting client of Jamieson Consulting Firm s.r.o.:
- A non-refundable 50% deposit (200€) is required when submitting your appointment request.
- The remaining balance is due once your appointments have been scheduled.
Full-service consulting clients receive a 50€ discount on this service, and a deposit is not required.
In-Person Interpretation Services
Interpretation is required for appointments conducted in Slovakia.
Interpretation fees are charged per appointment:
Location: Košice
Fee Per Appointment: 300€
Location: Banská Bystrica
Fee Per Appointment: 400€
Each of the above appointment fees includes up to 1.5 hours of total interpreter time, including both waiting time and active interpretation.
Additional time is billed at:
30€ per additional 30 minutes
Location: Bratislava - limited interpreter availability and an extremely backlogged district office. Citizenship application will stall for 6-9+ months.
Fee Per Appointment: 400€
If multiple family members are applying, applicants may not always be able to attend the same appointment. In this situation, additional appointments and interpretation fees may apply.
Document Packet Preparation
An additional service fee may apply if you request assistance with:
- Compiling document packets
- Preparing copies of documents
- Organizing materials for submission
This fee is based on the time and materials required and will be included on the interpreter’s invoice.
Important Information & Limitations
All service fees are non-refundable.

- Canceled or rescheduled government appointments
- Interrupted or delayed travel
- Extended stays or additional travel expenses
